The European Challenge Tour is back in Sweden this week for the Dormy Open. Here’s everything you need to know…
Mory’s maiden win
Félix Mory secured his maiden Challenge Tour title in a play-off against Björn Hellgren at the 2021 Dormy Open. The Frenchman sealed victory with a birdie at the second extra hole in what was just his fourth Challenge Tour start of the season. Mory struggled for the remainder of the year and was unable to secure his DP World Tour card, however he will be hoping a return to Österåkers Golfklubb can provide the catalyst for an upturn in form.
Österåkers Golfklubb
Österåkers Golfklubb, located near the Swedish capital Stockholm, compromises of two 18-hole courses. The Dormy Open will take place on the Österled, which offers a lot of risk and reward holes and is believed to be the more challenging of the two courses with a par of 72. The Österled has taken inspiration from Le Nationale and TPC Sawgrass, with clearly defined cliff lines, green fairways, and white bunker sand. Österåkers Golfklubb has hosted the Compaq Open, a Ladies European Tour event, on three separate occasions and the European Amateur Team Championship in 2019, which saw 2011 Challenge Tour Number One Tommy Fleetwood lead his England team to victory.
Schott to the top
Freddy Schott moved to the top of the Road to Mallorca Rankings after securing a maiden Challenge Tour victory at last week’s Frederikshavn Challenge – presented by HESSEL. The German has enjoyed a stellar campaign with one victory and six further top tens, accumulating 115,599 points on the Rankings. Sweden’s Jens Dantorp is 1,110 points behind in second place, while Denmark’s Oliver Hundebøll occupies third place on 111,971 points.
