Victorious Ryder Cup Captain Thomas Bjørn will return to Singapore for the first time since 2012 when he tees it up at the Singapore Classic at Laguna National Golf Resort Club from February 9-12.
The Dane, who masterminded Europe’s victory over the United States at Le Golf National, Paris in 2018, will be making his first appearance in the country in over a decade when he finished fourth at the Singapore Open.
The 51-year-old, who returned to the winner’s circle with his victory at the MCB Tour Championship on the Legends Tour in December, also finished fourth at the 2005 Caltex Masters presented by Carlsberg, which was also staged at Laguna National.
“I’m looking forward to returning to Asia to play golf again,” said Bjørn. “It’s been a few years since we’ve had the opportunity to do so and it’s a part of the world we all enjoy playing in. I have some good memories from my visits to Singapore and I’m excited to return to Laguna National.”
Bjørn joins the previously-announced Li Haotong of China and New Zealander Ryan Fox, who last week received the Seve Ballesteros Award as he was voted Player of the Year for 2022 by his fellow members, in the field as the DP World Tour returns to the Far East for the first time since August 2019.
Also set to tee it up in Singapore are the Asian trio of Wu Ashun of China, Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Malaysian Gavin Green.
“The thought of playing in a DP World Tour event so close to home is really exciting,” said Green, who has twice represented Malaysia at the Olympic Games. “I know a lot of the Asian members on the DP World Tour are really looking forward to our two weeks in Singapore and Thailand and we hope to see a lot of local support out there.”
“I had a great finish to the 2022 season and I’m hopeful that I can rekindle that form at the start of this year.”
Tickets for the Singapore Classic start at S$25 and are available here.
