John Parry secured his third Challenge Tour title and second of the season with a play-off victory over Per Längfors at the Blot Open de Bretagne.
The Englishman entered the final round with a three-shot lead but after posting a two under par final round of 68, he finished on 18 under alongside Swede Längfors, who posted a five under 65 at Golf Bluegreen de Pléneuf Val André.
The 37-year-old made par on the first trip up the last, while Längfors could only make a bogey, and he was pleased to get over the line in Brittany as he looks set for a return to the DP World Tour.
“It’s a fantastic feeling right now because I’ve put in a lot of hard work and it was a real grind today,” he said “I’m really pleased to win for the second time this season.
“I started off so well today and I thought I was going to run away with it. I had a bit of a hiccup around the turn, but I managed to pull it back after that and it was a real fight down the stretch.
“I hit a lot of good putts all day, but my pace was off. I think because I knew I was leading I was a little bit defensive. I showed some great determination to hole those putts on 16 and 17.”
Parry has been in fantastic form on the Road to Mallorca this season and he was delighted to add the Blot Open de Bretagne title to his Delhi Challenge victory in March, as he now sets his sights on automatic promotion to the DP World Tour with a third victory of the season.
“I’ve looked hard at the points, and I’ve pretty much secured my DP World Tour card for next season,” he said. “I’m playing so well, and I’m going to try and get that third win of the season to earn automatic promotion.”
Norwegian Kristoffer Reitan finished in third position on 13 under par, while Lucas Vacarisas of Spain was a shot further back in fourth. Spaniard Borja Virto carded the low round of the day, an eight under 62, to finish fifth alongside Portugal’s Tomas Gouveia on 12 under.
Parry strengthens his position in second place on the Road to Mallorca Rankings on 962.78 points, while Denmark’s Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen remains in pole position on 1,043 points. Längfors catapults 80 places into 25th position following his career best Challenge Tour finish in France.
The Road to Mallorca remains in France for the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge, taking place at Golf PGA France du Vaudreuil from June 27-30, 2024.
