Europe’s only Senior Major Championship will return to Carnoustie for a third time later this year and a star-studded field of golfing legends is already beginning to take shape. Tickets are selling fast, so click here to purchase yours.

Spain’s Olazábal, who won Green Jackets in 1994 and 1999, rolled back the years at Augusta National earlier this month as he made the cut and finished in a tie for 45th following an impressive level par closing round of 72.

The 58-year-old, who will go down in Ryder Cup folklore as the man who masterminded the Miracle at Medinah in 2012, is looking forward to competing in an event which is one of the highlights of his schedule.

“The Senior Open Presented by Rolex is always a special week and I am excited to play at Carnoustie later this year,” he said.

“This event gives us the opportunity to play some of the most iconic courses in the United Kingdom and to get the opportunity to compete at Carnoustie again, somewhere I’ve not been for over ten years, is amazing.”

Germany’s Čejka defeated Padraig Harrington in a play-off to win last year’s Senior Open Presented by Rolex as he landed his third Senior Major Championship on a dramatic final day at Royal Porthcawl.

The four-time DP World Tour winner got the job done at the second extra hole, making a two-putt birdie at the par-five 18th in punishing conditions, and will attempt to defend his crown in Scotland in July.

"It was incredible seeing all those great names on the trophy and I feel so honoured to be defending this great title later this year,” he said.

“It was one of the most special days in my whole career and the importance of the victory is not lost on me.

“This event is truly special and I know this year at Carnoustie, a great golf course, will be no different. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone there in July.”

This will be the third time the Championship has visited Carnoustie, with 12-time Senior Major winner Bernhard Langer winning in 2010, before Paul Broadhurst’s triumph in 2016.
