Everything you need to know from day one at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.

Rahm

There was nothing to separate Darius van Driel, Wu Ashun and Kiradech Aphibarnrat at the top of the leaderboard after the first round of the 2022 acciona Open de España presented by Madrid.

Here is everything you need to know from day one at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.

Rahm wows his home crowd

Home hero Jon Rahm got phenomenal support all day on Thursday and he rewarded the huge galleries with some magnificent shots. After missing the green at the eighth, Rahm chipped in from a tricky spot for a birdie, with the ball landing just on the green before racing into the cup. And the roar that followed was quite something.

Tarrio holes monster putt

Rahm wasn't the only Spaniard putting on a show on day one, with Santiago Tarrio following up a 23-foot birdie putt on the second and an eagle on the fourth with this 40-foot putt for birdie at the fifth...

Co-leaders all finish strongly

Morning starter Wu made eight birdies and no bogeys in his first-round 63, finishing off with three in a row to get to eight under par. Aphibarnrat caught him at the summit late in the day after reeling off five straight birdies in the closing stages of his round. Van Driel also saved his best until last, holing his birdie putt from almost 30 feet on the ninth green to join them at the top.

From 8 to 1 - Gavins bounces back in style

Daniel Gavins arrived at the ninth tee having just carded a quadruple-bogey eight at the previous hole, but he regained his composure and holed his tee-shot for an amazing hole-in-one. And his caddie absolutely loved it...

Perfection from Pepperell

Finding himself among the trees, Eddie Pepperell took the brave option and it paid dividends...

Pavon's lightning-quick start

Matthieu Pavon flew out of the blocks on Thursday, firing an eagle and four birdies in his first six holes to jump to six under par. Seven straight pars followed before he picked up his next birdie on the 14th, and four closing pars saw him sign for a bogey-free 64. He said: "It was a crazy start, one of the fastest I have ever had on Tour, I think. I played really solid all day, it clicked in when I started, some good drives down the middle, good irons, good numbers and also putting on fire, so I made a sweet start and I tried to move on with it."
