Félix Mory will make the first title defence of his professional career in this week’s Dormy Open at Österåkers Golfklubb, the first of back-to-back tournaments in Sweden.
The Frenchman earned a maiden Challenge Tour victory by defeating Sweden’s Björn Hellgren in a play-off in 2021 but fell short of securing a DP World Tour card as he finished 35th on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, 15 places outside the graduation spots.
“It feels amazing to be back here,” he said. “It was the highlight of my Challenge Tour career so far and I had no expectations coming into the week. I love this course because it suits my eye and I’m looking forward to having fun again this week.
“Last year I headed to the 18th hole with a one-shot lead when Björn made a birdie and I made par. We had to play 18 again in the play-off and my birdie putt just lipped out on the first extra hole. On the second play-off hole I left myself with a five-footer to win my first tournament on the Challenge Tour - luckily, I made it and it felt amazing.”
Mory has struggled to find a level of consistency in 2022 and currently occupies 60th position on the Rankings, however he has shown signs of an upturn in form in recent weeks with a fourth place finish at the Big Green Egg German Challenge powered by VcG, followed by a 21st place at the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge.
“I didn’t start this season too well and in South Africa I missed too many cuts,” he said. “I found it tough mentally but over the last few weeks I have started to play better and get some confidence back. I have had good tournaments in Germany and Finland and my game is in a good place. I’m looking forward to finishing the season strong and to try and break into the top 20 on the Rankings.”
Mory will be joined in Sweden this week by Germany’s Freddy Schott, who moved to the top of the Road to Mallorca Rankings after securing a maiden Challenge Tour victory at last week’s Frederikshavn Challenge – presented by HESSEL.
