Abu Dhabi Challenge: Three to Watch

The Road to Mallorca heads to Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club this week for the Abu Dhabi Challenge, the first of two events in the UAE Swing. Here are three players to look out for...

Form horse - Rhys Enoch

Rhys Enoch returns to Challenge Tour action this week following an impressive seventh place finish last time out on the DP World Tour at the Porsche Singapore Classic. The Welshman has already tasted victory on the Challenge Tour in 2024 at the season opener SDC Open in South Africa and currently lies in third position on the Road to Mallorca Rankings. It would be no surprise to see another strong performance in Abu Dhabi this week.

Local boy - Joshua Grenville-Wood

Joshua Grenville-Wood became a resident of the UAE after moving to Dubai in 2019, and last year he was awarded the opportunity to represent the UAE after gaining citizenship. The 26-year-old impressed at last year’s Abu Dhabi Challenge with a second-place finish at Abu Dhabi Golf Club and he will be hoping to go one better this week. Grenville-Wood has made a strong start to the 2024 season with a runner up finish at the Delhi Challenge last month and is currently placed 20th in the Road to Mallorca Rankings.

The outsider - Tomas Gouveia

Tomas Gouveia has had a quiet start to the 2024 season and currently lies outside the top 100 in the Road to Mallorca Rankings after 6 starts in South Africa and India. The 29-year-old will be looking to kickstart his season at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club this week by following in the footsteps of his older brother Ricardo, who took home victory in the Abu Dhabi Challenge 12 months ago and subsequently secured DP World Tour playing privileges after finishing tenth on the 2023 Road to Mallorca Rankings.
