Won The 2016 Open Championship in what is considered one of the greatest head-to-head duels of all time, shooting a final round 63 at Royal Troon to better Phil Mickelson and card the lowest winning total in Major Championship history, 264, also becoming Sweden’s first male Major winner.

Claimed the silver medal at Rio 2016 behind Justin Rose, the man he has formed a strong Ryder Cup record partnership during five appearances for Team Europe.

His victory at The Open was his second win of 2016, and his 11th on the European Tour, as he went on to win the Race to Dubai for a second time.

A runner-up finish at The 142nd Open at Muirfield in 2013 kick-started a run which saw him become the first player in history to win both the Race to Dubai and PGA TOUR’s FedEx Cup in the same season. Stenson won two of the PGA TOUR’s play-off events, the Deutsche Bank Championship and Tour Championship and a month later won the DP World Tour Championship to top the rankings on both sides of the Atlantic.

Won his first European Tour title in 2001 at the Benson & Hedges International Open and would finish inside the top ten on the Order of Merit from 2005 to 2008.

Won four times across 2006 and 2007, also becoming the first Swedish player to win a World Golf Championships title at the WGC-Accenture Match Play, defeating Geoff Ogilvy 2&1 in the final.

In 2009, he also became the first Swede to win the Players Championship on the PGA TOUR, his second victory in the United States.

Won his sixth PGA TOUR title at the 2017 Wyndham Championship.

Co-hosted the innovative Scandinavian Mixed in 2021 alongside one of the greatest female golfers of all time, Annika Sorenstam.

Selected as European Captain for the 2023 Ryder Cup at Marco Simone.

Represented Sweden on a number of occasions as an amateur during the mid-1990s, Stenson turned professional in 1998 and topped the Challenge Tour Rankings in 2000 to earn his European Tour card for the first time.
