A highlight for golf in Belgium, KPMG Trophy has new date, new venue

Occupying a new place on the Challenge Tour International Schedule, the 14th KPMG Trophy will move to a new venue, Millenium Golf, located in Paal, Beringen, Belgium, and a new date, August 29- September 1, as it continues its tradition of promoting golf and elite Belgian golfers.

Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry

The strength of Belgian golf continues to grow, highlighted by the 2018 ISPS Handa Melbourne World Cup of Golf victory for former Challenge Tour players Thomas Detry and Thomas Pieters.

A member of Team Europe for The 2016 Ryder Cup, Pieters is a three time European Tour winner who is a strong supporter of golf in his home country. He has taken the reigns of a new event on the European Tour, the Belgian Knockout, which is an innovative nine hole format, which sees players compete head-to-head over nine holes of stroke play, as opposed to match play, meaning no player is safe and every match comes down the last hole, with multiple shot swings frequently deciding matches.

Detry, who grabbed the 15th and final European Tour card when he graduated from the Challenge Tour in 2016, helped the Belgian duo to a 23 under par total at the ISPS Handa World Cup of Golf, which added to his 2016 Bridgestone Challenge win on the Challenge Tour in 2016.

With its new date, this year’s KPMG Trophy will offer a late-season opportunity to any player hoping to move up the rankings as the business end of the season approaches for the game’s future stars.
